Not a tuning - a lab chart. A DAC or amp is engineered to add nothing of its own: what it contributes is distortion and a noise floor. This is the distortion chart engineers write those on - drag the sliders, try the presets, hear the effect.
- The tall ink line is the 1 kHz test note itself.
- Gold spikes at 2, 3, 4 kHz are harmonics - ghost copies the converter adds on top of the music.
- The blue line is the noise floor: everything below it drowns in silence.
- Reality check: distortion under 0.01% and a floor past 96 dB already sit under what ears can detect - which is why real-world differences between DACs come from features, power and build, not these numbers.
